A Coalition for a Threat-Free City of Beacon!

As residents of the City of Beacon, we are involved because this city is our home. There are enough good people living here to take on the ongoing issue of police brutality in the City of Beacon. Let's create a coalition for change here in the City of Beacon to overcome our difficulties.

Your support is needed to raise awareness and inform the public of the seriousness of this issue. Let's create a Safe & Threat-Free Beacon by demanding that the City of Beacon Police Department enforce using established standards of police practice, policy, and procedure.

Would you forward this website to others? Would you talk about these issues with friends? Would you contact us to with ideas of next steps or the names of people we should contact? Perhaps you know someone who can help us? Would you help facilitate a public hearing on how to create a Safe & Threat-Free Beacon?

  1. Have you made any attempt to go to the media (Poughkeepsie Journal, Cablevision, etc.) about this incident?

  2. Having lived in Beacon my entire life I have noticed on occasion that there are a few bad apples in the Beacon police force, from the mayor on down they all know this, and chose to look the other way. It’s about time, Beacon has had several lawsuits and a ton of bad press, for the people and management of Beacon to wake up and do something. Training is needed and is called for; the police are unable to police themselves so we as concerned citizens must demand that our elected officials hold the police accountable for their actions and respond to the concerned requests of the citizens of Beacon.

  3. I guess we need to address what the next steps are. I have been to the human rights commission (filed a complaint for some relatives of mine who were beaten up) and they showed me the details of the FBI recommendations, but we have no say/power to effect any change in the police dept. I think a bill/resolution needs to be introduced via the city council for a complaint review board which has oversight/power to effect police misconduct (i.e. fire officers repeatedly listed in complaints).
